Mosaic tiled ceiling:
This stunning ceiling was inside one of the madrasas (religious colleges) that I visited in Samarkand. Due to Islam's prohibition on depicting humans or animals, the art developed along geometric forms. You can also see the farsi script along the border. Although most Uzbeks can't read it and even those who can can't understand it, they believe as their religion dictates, that the koran is only inspired in it's original language.
